We always promote to discover not only the city itself but it surrounding as well if someone spends a longer period in Budapest. Now we have one more option to do so. New lookout tower opened in the Buda Hills. The octagonal lookout tower is in the immediate vicinity of the capital city and offers breathtaking view. This unique wooden construction is made of pine tree logs. Its arrival level will also function as a resting place, where – for example - the National Blue Tour participants can relax a bit. And the lookout has (will have) a restaurant terrace as well, so if you’re not a nomad type, it’s okay. The 4-meter-high observation level provides a beautiful panoramic view to Budapest and the Danube River.

The developments related to the new lookout include new road leading to the top, new stairs and railings beyond the basic things. The lookout tower is open for the visitors, but the official ceremony will be held together with a new tourist house nearby in the summer. (Yes, tourism development is quite complex and full.) Even until then, we can admire the most beautiful panorama of Budapest from the top of Hármashatár Hill.

This 495 meter high peak of Buda Hills is situated on the edge of 2nd and 3rd district and it’s worth climbing for several reasons. It’s really close to the city but we can get to a whole different world. Shady walking trails to hike, clearings, animals, birds singing, it’s like Wonderland to me. And if we reach the top, such magnificent view opens up that I, for example started to plan my future in nature. Hiking here, you should visit the „Lion rock” on Kecske Hill, the Árpád lookout on Látó Hill and this newest one we are talking about. In good weather we can see even Pilis, Cserhát and Mátra Hills in the distance.

Access to the area not complicated: The most convenient way to get there is the bus from Kolosy Square, which is a perfect starting and end point due to its confectionary shops and coffee bars and its central location. I think (and I’m afraid a bit) this area is slowly becoming a real tourist paradise you have to see!
