Watch The Nutcracker in your home for free

If you can’t imagine Christmas without watching The Nutcracker live, well, we good news: this fairy tale ballet is made available for one day in the OperaLive series on 24 December 2020 on Facebook and Origo.

The Nutcracker is as much part of Christmas in the Hungarian Opera as glittering trees and beigli cake for the Hungarian families – this enchanting ballet has been performed almost every year since 1950, apart from the aftermath the bloody Hungarian Uprising of 1956 and the restauration of the Opera House in 1981-82.

So it was a big question what will happen this year, in the middle of the second wave of the coronavirus. Luckily, the Hungarian State Opera has made all their cancelled live shows available online, in the OperaLive series, where a recorded full performance of The Nutcracker from 2016 will be available this Christmas for one day. And it is free.

What to do if you would like to stream it? Well, it is good to know that it will be available to watch from 3 p.m. on 24 December until midnight on 25 December 2020 on the Facebook page of the Opera https://www.facebook.com/Operahaz and Origo.hu.
