‘In Budapest, everything is so cheap.”

Some people might be satisfied with the prices in Budapest, especially if they purchase essential products in a supermarket and eat lunch or dinner in a tavern, but we must verify that not everything is cheap in Budapest. For example, if you choose an elegant restaurant or bar in the city centre, or Váci utca for shopping, you will notice that the prices are the same as in the city centre of any Western European city.

‘You can only pay with forints.’

There are several spots where you can pay with Euros and cards. But we suggest you to always change some forints because, in our opinion, this is the most beneficial for you and your valet.

‘Public safity is bad.’

That’s not true. Budapest is generally a safe and relaxed place, so forget the horror stories you have heard. You are unlikely to have any problems during your stay, if you follow the basic rules that you wouldn't forget in other cities. Racism or xenophobia is not too very common an occurrence here either. Petty theft and pickpocketing are more common issues, but if you close your bag and take care of your belongings, you don’t have to be afraid of these.

‘The city is not so big and can be overwhelmed by tourists.’

Many people will tell you that Budapest is just like Prague being crowded and overwhelmed by tourist groups. In reality, Budapest is much larger and can easily absorb three or four times more visitors than Prague. Furthermore, while Prague has a tiny, compact central area, Budapest has a sprawling city centre over more than 25 square miles.

‘There are a lot of ruin pubs, party places, etc. but not so many really good spots.’

You might have heard people complaining that Budapest has several party spots, ruin pubs and other places to go out to, they didn’t find so many really good spots there though. Well, we don’t share this opinion and we suggest you not to believe it, either. Because there are so many really good pubs, ruin pubs, party spots, etc. in the city centre, for example in Gozsdu Court that we can’t even list them. After finding out what would you like to do in the city on a night out, you can check out several spots via internet, gather some information (and click to the reviews on each spot’s Facebook page) and choose a place. We are sure that you will have a good time.

‘People don’t speak English.’

Elderly people and some folks in the countryside maybe don’t presently speak a very good English but in Budapest, a lot of people do. And they are really nice, they will try to help you, if don’t know where to find your destination. We suggest you to ask young people, if you have any questions, because most of them have learned English at school and in high school.
