If you don’t want to fly or you simply prefer a new travel experience, what about a journey on a night train? By choosing Budapest as the place of departure, you can reach a couple of destinations so, and some super good news: the Budapest-Bucharest sleeper train even happens to be on The Guardian’s top 10 list of European sleeper trains.

‘Budapest’s Keleti station, where this sleeper originates, leaves the utilitarian terminus crowd behind with its grand facade, high ceilings and sense of space and light. At the other end of this journey, spend the morning gazing at the Carpathian Mountains – as the early evening departure from Keleti doesn’t arrive in Bucharest’s Gara de Nord until lunchtime.
