Parlor candy, the typical Hungarian Christmas candy called ‘szaloncukor’ has its own competition of course – let us give you a list of this year’s winners shortly.

109 flavours were nominated in the competition called ‘Best Szaloncukor of the year’ and the winner is the salted caramel flavored parlor candy from Demeter Chocolate in Kiskunlacháza. The coconut cream szaloncukor from Gyula Kézműves Cukrászda came in second, followed by Stühmer’s pistachio creamed dessert.

In the sugar-free category, the winner is Sulyán confectionery – their almond, prune, walnut, dark chocolate parlor candy was ranked as best in its category in this year’s competition. The second was Stühmer’s milk chocolate szaloncukor filled with peanut cream, and the third place goes to almond-chocolate parlor candy from Tesco Finest.

The best handcrafted szaloncukor was also chosen: the first place went to the Kézműves Cukrászda’s milk chocolate with hazelnut nougat szaloncukor. It was followed by Demeter Chocolate’s Irsai Olivér grape brandy product, and Sulyán confectionery’s salted pumpkin seeds and white chocolate truffle flavored parlor candy.
