It’s official! ’On body and soul’ is Oscar-nominated
Posted by Budnews · Jan 29, 2018

The miracle can happen again.

It's almost unbelievable, but it’s true: after 2016 and 2017, there is Hungarian movie on the Academy Award list this year as well. Ildikó Enyedi's film, On Body and Soul made it to the 5 best foreign language films list. Success was almost to be expected, because the film won countless awards in the last year. The most important of these are perhaps the first prize of the Berlin International Film Festival and the European Film Prize for Best Female Actress for the female protagonist, Alexandra Borbély, who was struggling with tears when she came on stage to take over the prize.

The Hungarian film competes in a strong field: Chile (Fantastic Woman), Lebanon (The Insult), Russia (Loveless) and Sweden (The Square) have all excellent artworks. This year, the Oscar gala will be on an unusual date: because of the winter Olympic Games of PyeongChang in February, the Oscar event will be on 4 March in Los Angeles, for the 90th time.

Fun fact: after the Oscar nomination, Netfix changed the premiere of the Hungarian film from 21 February to 2 February. The film has been premiered in 92 countries so far and has six more screening abroad until the Oscar.
