Following the most successful year of his career, which saw him clinch five Grammy Awards for his acclaimed track “Not Like Us,” rapper Kendrick Lamar is set to grace the grandest stage in America with a performance at the Super Bowl on Sunday.
Lamar's act, featuring singer SZA, is eagerly anticipated, especially after he made significant waves in both cultural and musical landscapes throughout 2024.
Roc Nation, the entertainment entity and NFL collaborator that organizes the halftime show, selected Lamar to headline the event last summer. By that time, he was already accleimed rapper, but his fame skyrocketed following the release of “Not Like Us” on May 4.
The single shattered various streaming records and earned five Grammy awards for Lamar, setting a new benchmark as the most awarded rap song in the history of the Grammys. Shortly after its launch, Lamar received a call from Jay-Z, the founder of Roc Nation, inviting him to perform at the Super Bowl.
In preparation for the big day, Lamar will have a minimum of three days to rehearse on the field. During these rehearsals, the artists will go through the entire performance multiple times. The halftime show presents unique challenges regarding timing and staging; Lamar has precisely eight minutes to enter the field and six minutes to get off.
